Expectations are high for the 2024 SMS Girls Soccer Team as they return several key players from last years squad that finished 7-5 and lost a heart breaker 0-1 to arch rival Elkview in the post season tournament. Sissonville will be led by three year starters and team captains Blake Cruickshank, Riley Hammack, and Rylie Haynes. The Cruickshank and Hammack duo will form a strong midfield partnership and control the flow of the game. Haynes netted 29 goals in only 12 regular season games to lead the scoring race for girls in Kanawha County Middle Schools. The team also returns several starters from last years team including Karlee Strickland, who is one of the best defenders in the county, Cayleigh Garrett who has been solid all summer during workouts and will be an important player in the midfield, and Sydney Gearhart as keeper that had several matches last year without giving up a single goal. Additionally, multiple players that contributed valuable varsity minutes last year will be expected to step up and compete for starting roles this year include Makena Shamblin, Braylee Mcclanahan, Avery Gearhart, Addison Craven and Tenley Taylor. New to the Varsity Team this year will be Lilly Hager, Jocelyn Oxley, Paisyn Wiseman, Kaylee Slater, Jaden Walker, Kista Stotts, Miley Richardson, Josie Pettry, and Adalynn Beane all of whom will all be battling for playing time.
