On Monday September 30th the Redhawks took on Andrew Jackson Middle School.  The boys soccer team was slow to start but got it going after the first goal was scored by 6th grader Ben Walker.  A few minutes later Kayne Adkins would score the first goal of his three to complete the “Hat Trick”.  Abram Taylor would later dial long distance from his defensive position that resulted in a goal from 40 yards out.  Ryker Wiseman scored midway through the second half to add to the final score of 6-1.  Redhawks improve their record to 5-3-0.  The Redhawks are on a 3-game winning streak as they travel to take on the John Adams Falcons on Wednesday at 7:00.

Sissonville Boys Soccer Down Rival Elkview Middle

On Wednesday September 25th the Sissonville Boys Soccer Team traveled to Elkview Middle.  The rivalry between Sissonville and Elkview was on full display on a rain-soaked field.  The two evenly matched teams battled for 60 minutes in the rain that resulted in a Sissonville victory with a score of 1-0.  The loan goal came from a corner kick that Zachary Stuck placed for Jackson Cook to head the ball in for the goal.  This rare way of scoring by Jackson was accomplished 15 minutes into the game.  The remainder of the game was a physical and defensive battle between the two teams.  Goalie Ryker Wiseman was key in the victory by stopping numerous shots on goal.  The victory improves the Redhawks record to 4-3-0.  The Redhawks are back in action at home on Monday September 30th at 5:30 against Andrew Jackson Middle.

Monday evening the Sissonville Middle School Boys traveled to take on Harace Mann.  Sissonville controlled the ball the majority of the game but struggled to score against a tough defense.  Horace Mann was able to score on break away runs to take an early lead.  Final score was 5-1 with Sissonville’s loan goal coming from Zachary Stuck on a penalty kick in the second half.   Sissonville record is now 2-2-0.  These teams will meet again for the final game of the season on October 14th at 5:30 with a home field advantage for Sissonville.

Sissonville Middle School Girls Soccer lost a tough fought match to Charleston Catholic with a final score of 4-3. It was a back and forth match with Sissonville taking the early lead off a corner kick from Rylie Haynes that was redirected in the goal by Makena Shamblin. Catholic answered a few minutes later to tie the match 1-1 and then scored again just before halftime to take a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Redhawks responded early in the second half when Rylie Haynes took a pass from Riley Hammack, beat her defender, and slotted home a shot to tie the match 2-2. Later in the second half Karlee Strickland was on the receiving end of a Haynes corner kick to beat the goalie and give the Redhawks a 3-2 lead. Catholic answered a few minutes later to tie the game 3-3. With only a couple minutes remaining in the game Catholic scored the winner and came out on top 4-3. The Sissonville Middle School Boys Soccer Team took on South Charleston Middle in a closely fought game.  The Redhawks were down late in the first half when Zachary Stuck evened the score to 1-1 on a goal from a free kick.  The score remained tied until midway through the second half when a penalty kick resulted in a second goal for Zachary.  A few minutes later Aiden Tavarez scored his first ever goal for Sissonville Middle to secure the win.  With a final score of 3 to 1 the Redhawks improve their record to 1-1-0. Next up for the Boys Team is a trip to McKinkley Middle School on Wednesday at 5:30.

The Sissonville Middle School Girls Soccer team exploded for 8 goals last night and finished with an 8-2 victory over Horace Mann. Rylie Haynes lead the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Blake Cruikshank once again controlled the midfield and bagged 2 goals and 2 assists of her own. Cayleigh Garrett played well as a defensive holding midfielder and converted a penalty kick in the second half and finished with 1 goal and 1 assist. Avery Gearhart also got on the scoresheet late in the second half and scored 1 goal. The Lady Redhawks return to action with a home game against Charleston Catholic on Wednesday September 11 at 7:00pm.

The SMS Varsity Girls Volleyball team defeated Charleston Catholic in a hard fought season opener. Trailing by 3 early in the first set, Autumn Thaxton served 12 unanswered points to not only tie up the game, but gain a 2 point lead at 23. With two points left to go, the girls quickly regained possession of the ball and closed out the first set with a score of 25-18. The second set, again, began with your Lady Redhawks in a deficit as the Lady Irish pulled ahead. However, the Redhawks overcame the adversity with first-class sets from Thaxton, powerful blocks from Avery Gearhart, and crucial digs from both Aubryana Kimble and Addison Querry. The closing minutes saw us tied 24-24 when Lexi Cummings returned the ball in an impressive scramble from the floor.           The Lady Redhawks started slow but picked up steam late in the first half with Rylie Haynes scoring three goals before the break.  Addison Craven and Blake Cruickshank each served up perfect passes to Haynes who calmly converted her shots. Haynes later picked up two more goals in the second half raising her game tally to five off of well placed passes again from Craven and Cruickshank, both of whom ended the game with two assists each. The midfield was stellar with the play of Cayleigh Phillips, Makena Shamblin, and Riley Hammack. Karlee Strickland was a dominant force on the back line, along with Tenley Taylor who killed several promising attacks.  Next up for the Lady Redhawks is a home game with Horace Mann on Monday September 9 at 7:00pm.

As the new school year begins, our middle school volleyball team is gearing up for an excitingand promising season! Sissonville Middle Girls Soccer Primed For Success

          Expectations are high for the 2024 SMS Girls Soccer Team as they return several key players from last years squad that finished 7-5 and lost a heart breaker 0-1 to arch rival Elkview in the post season tournament. Sissonville will be led by three year starters and team captains Blake Cruickshank, Riley Hammack, and Rylie Haynes. The Cruickshank and Hammack duo will form a strong midfield partnership and control the flow of the game. Haynes netted 29 goals in only 12 regular season games to lead the scoring race for girls in Kanawha County Middle Schools. The team also returns several starters from last years team including Karlee Strickland, who is one of the best defenders in the county, Cayleigh Garrett who has been solid all summer during workouts and will be an important player in the midfield, and Sydney Gearhart as keeper that had several matches last year without giving up a single goal. Redhawks were the first to get on the board in the first when Elkview induced Cooper Hall to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. A fielder's choice by Cooper Nooney extended the SMS lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Layne Coffman earned the win for Sissonville. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Johnson took the loss for Elk Herd Varsity. The starting pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out one and walking three. Brayden Scarberry collected the save. The date of the county track meet has been changed from Monday to Wednesday, May 15th. This is due to updates that need to be made to the track before the state tournament. Please be aware that the shift will put the meet during the bike race on the boulevard. I'm not sure what this will do to traffic, but you may need to plan to leave earlier to arrive at the meet if you are not riding the bus.  _________ For athletes going to the Poca meet tonight. The field events are starting at 4:30. This is earlier than normal. Running is still starting at 5. The bus is still a one way trip and athletes will need to be picked up at Poca High School. The address is: 1 Dot Way Poca, WV 25159 There are only 8 teams at this meet, so with a little luck, we may be done before 10 pm.  Tonight's meet results will be posted on TriState Racer, not AlthleticLive. Wilson’s Perfect Game leaves Horace Mann Scoreless

          Jozey Wilson struck out 12 batters as the pitcher led the Lady Redhawks past Horace Mann 18-0 on Wednesday. Wilson gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none.           Wilson also led the team offensively going 3-3 at the plate with a double, two singles, and a walk. Sissonville was the first to get on the board in the second when Kenzie Casdorph singled, scoring one run.          Singles from Autumn Thaxton & Makenna Parcell, a double by Wilson, and a ground out by Ava Robeson helped the Redhawks extend their early lead in the third.          Sissonville scored nine runs on one hit in the top of the fifth inning. Harley Moss singled, scoring one run, Laylie Dunlap, Riley Adkins, and Brooklyn Fields each drew a walk, scoring one run each, on top of several errors by Horace Mann that allowed for five more runs.

         The Sissonville Redhawks were victorious against Hayes Hornets on Monday with a 5-3 win on 8th Grade Night.            The Hayes Hornets opened the scoring in the first after a single scored one run.            In the bottom of the first inning, Sissonville got the lead after Hayes Hornets committed an error, and Ava Robeson singled, each scoring one run.            Another Hayes single helped the Hornets tie the game at two in the top of the second.            An inside the park home run by Jozey Wilson gave the Redhawks the lead, 5-2, in the bottom of the second when she picked up 2 RBIs.             Robeson started in the circle for Sissonville.
